350 Australia – Movement Support Team Member – Volunteer Position

Volunteering relates to the following Faculties/Industries: 

  • Environmental Studies

350 are building a grassroots movement to stand up to the fossil fuel industry, and support a just transition from coal, oil and gas to a renewable energy future for all. The movement is rising from the ground up all over
the world and is uniting to create the solutions that will create a better future for all. 350.org Australia is a not-for-profit project helping build this movement from our corner of the globe.

The MST exists to enhance and grow the capacity of our community-based volunteers to campaign effectively for a fossil-free and climate-safe future in Australia.

How to apply
Before you apply, please check the following:

  • You can commit, at least, 6 hours per week for 6 months from the week of 30 September until April 2025 (we will have a Christmas holiday shutdown towards the end of December until mid-January 2025).
  • Can participate in the September bootcamp on 3, 5 and 10 October 2024.
  • Pick one of the three teams and check out the selection criteria.
  • Write your cover letter and resume ensuring that you address the selection criteria of the team you want to be considered for.
  • Make sure you outline your motivation clearly in your cover letter. If you have a particular preference on what days and times you’d like to volunteer, please include it in your cover letter.

Movember’s Student Ambassador Program

Volunteering relates to the following Faculties/Industries:

Movember is always open to accepting new Ambassadors even outside of the months leading up to Movember.

 88% of last year’s Ambassadors said they learnt new skills through the program including communication, marketing, problem-solving, organisational skills, time & project management. As well as this, all Ambassadors receive references from Movember and the opportunity to host a Movember-led mental health workshop on campus.

 


Victorian Heart Hospital

Volunteering relates to the following Faculties/Industries:

Commitment: 12 month commitment of a 4 hour shift once a week

Australia’s first dedicated cardiac hospital, The Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) opened its doors on Thursday 23rd February 2023. Partnering with Monash University, the Heart Hospital integrates clinical cardiology services, research and education to create a centre of excellence.

VHH is currently welcoming applications to volunteer in a flexible Concierge and Ward Ambassador role.

The Volunteer Concierge role provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere whilst making visitors’ check-in smooth and stress-free. This role helps set the tone for the entrance for visitors and patients, perfect for those who love to uplift others. 

Ward Ambassadors are a friendly and supportive addition to hospital wards providing company and support to patients and visitors. These volunteers may guide visitors to their loved one’s bedside, have social conversations, read to patients, and support ward activities.

Key skills we are looking for within our volunteer community include good communication, being able to speak clearly and being helpful to visitors with directions as well as providing information. We are looking for people who are outgoing with a friendly personality that helps visitors to feel welcome.

Headspace: @ease Program 

Volunteering relates to the following Faculties/Industries: 

  • Arts
  • Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences

@ease program aims to better support young people accessing headspace Syndal. Volunteers are trained to welcome young people and their families to the Centre and help them to feel comfortable and accommodated before their appointment. The @ease volunteers focus on creating a relaxed and inclusive environment for young people visiting our Centre.

What does an @ease volunteer do?

  • Welcoming young people and families in the waiting room
  • Assist to create a relaxed environment for young people entering the Centre
  • Assist young people and their families to fill out forms and surveys prior/following their appointments
  • Encouraging young people to engage with our space and activities
  • Assist young people who may need additional support following their appointment
  • Attending and participating in regular group supervision meetings
  • Work within boundaries and scope of practice

Who can apply?

They’re looking for volunteers who:

  • Are 20 – 30 years old.
  • Live in or around the Monash area (or willing to travel).
  • Studying/working in a relevant field (e.g. psychology, social work, youth work, nursing, teaching, community services)
  • Passionate about youth mental health and wellbeing
  • Eager to relate well and engage with young people and their families

Vision Australia

Faculties/Industries based Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Administration Volunteer Wellbeing, Health and Safety (WHS)

PURPOSE

This role is to support WHS activities with the aim to improve engagement, wellbeing and safety across Vision Australia.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

•     Filing training records e.g. first aid certificate, MHFA. Check who is due and when

•     Filing site compliance records and close off CIMS

(Read over WHS site inspection checklist, review if incident report is needed. Follow up where sites have not completed and check items such as chemical register)

•     Audit site emergency manuals

•     Work from home arrangement questionnaire follow up

•     Research- COVID-19 restriction changes/updates, changes in legislation, workplace wellbeing

•     COVID-19 inbox response, use of quick links and update register

•     Monitor WHS inbox and flag/categorise

•     Support with developing wellbeing hub posts as needed

•     Perform administration tasks and office duties (e.g. data entry and collection, filing, scanning, creation of documents, calling relevant stakeholders, etc) to ensure operations run smoothly

•     Liaise with staff when required

•     Complete required data recording tasks to accurately record information about your volunteering activities
