The Mutineers, a new work by Tavisshi Dhawan

The Mutineers - a world in which courage is cultivated in secret meetings, love blooms in the shadows, and friendship becomes the fiercest rebellion.

Written by Tavisshi Dhawan and co-directed with Tiara Pires, The Mutineers is set in the 1990s at the prestigious, long-established Bellview Academy. We follow the journey of two scholarship students: Veronica Hughes, a guarded young woman with a strong sense of justice; and Ted Lewis, a hesitant yet optimistic young man, as they navigate their transfer from humble beginnings into “Hellview’s” complex social environment.

Hidden beneath the school’s polished veneer lies a clandestine group of students, who meet in secret to speak their truths, be themselves, and form unshakeable connections. The Mutineers is a tale about love, friendship, queer identity in the face of adversity, and the challenges that come with change.

Co-Director Tiara Pires describes the piece as “a contemporary take on a timeless tale of found family, teen love, and rebellion in the face of powerful institutions.”

“It’s a story about the power of being hopeful and finding your people in a new environment, and staying resilient, even when people around you knock you down”, says Writer & Co-Director Tavisshi Dhawan.
