SURLY Library Attendant

We are seeking a casual team member for SURLY, the Student Union Recreational Library at Monash Student Association. SURLY is a busy, fun, creative, supportive space; we hope to find an incumbent who enjoys the library's services and community atmosphere.

Role information

The Student Union Recreational Library (SURLY) is the only recreational library on campus, committed to providing relevant resources and useful services for students. Founded in the 1960s as a music-listening library, it now holds a range of multimedia - books, ebooks, music, comics, games, magazines, craft, laptops & a gadget library. SURLY also hosts book clubs and creative competitions, and provides extensive information services.

The library is run by a small team of staff, alongside a wider team of wonderful student volunteers. The Library Service Attendant (Casual) is responsible for the delivery of excellent front-facing service to library patrons and the wider MSA community. This includes loans and circulation services; printing; general library administration; information services; and student & volunteer engagement.

Role Details

This is a casual role, and the incumbent should expect 1-3 shifts during semester weeks. They will be required to work on-site , in the library at Monash Clayton Campus.

At this stage, we are only seeking applications from current Monash students.

Applications will close when the position is filled, with the intent to interview applicants in January; early applications encouraged. To apply, please upload your CV and cover letter via this application form. Written responses to Key Selection Criteria must also be included on the next page; we kindly request that applicants write these responses themselves, not using chatGPT (otherwise they all sound the same - we'd rather learn about you!)

For any questions, please email MSA via msa@monash.edu
