Improve your job seeking skills to assist you to find employment. It requires preparation with a carefully written resume that is your self-marketing tool, an effective cover letter, and interview practice to enhance your communication and confidence. These will help ‘sell’ your work experiences, qualifications, and skills to prospective employers. A positive attitude and a proactive approach will assist you in your job search. Your resume is a marketing tool that is the first point of contact between you and the prospective employer. It outlines your qualifications, skills and experience relevant to the job, and hence your suitability for a position. The cover letter personalises your skills, qualifications and experience for a position. An effective cover letter will convince an employer of your suitability to read your resume, and to invite you to a job interview. The interview is the most critical point in your job search. It involves personally meeting the prospective employer, your chance to ‘sell yourself’ and succeed in winning the job.
