Making Friends on Res
As a new resident, it is often easy to feel overwhelmed at the prospect of meeting new people, but don’t worry, you’re not alone! Res is the chance to meet inspiring people from diverse backgrounds, and to make friendships which will last a lifetime. However, connecting with people can be hard, to make things easier, we’ve provided you with some helpful tips.
- Use common Spaces: A big tip from former ressies is to ensure you use your common spaces. This means eating dinner in common rooms, playing in games rooms and using communal cooking and study spaces. This places you in areas with your fellow residents, and makes it easier to meet new people. Additionally, make sure to introduce yourself to your neighbours!
- Join a cooking group: Joining a cooking group with other ressies is a great way to make friends. Send a message to your hall group chat and see if anyone is interested in joining you, it’s an awesome way to make connections and eat yummy food at the same time!
- Social Events: Although it can be daunting attending your Hall’s social events and much more comfortable staying in your room, these events are a guaranteed way to meet new people. These can include Uni Nights, Hall Sports and other associated Hall Society Events.
- Clubs and Societies: Signing up to clubs and societies is an essential University experience! Clubs and societies are a great way to meet like-minded people with similar backgrounds and they’re always looking for new members!
