Academic Progress
MSA Student Advocacy and Support is closed. We re-open on Thurs 02/01/2025 for APC matters.
These appointments are only for assistance in completing My Academic Progress Response forms, My Progress and Support Tools and preparing for APC hearings.
We assist Clayton, Parkville & Gippsland undergraduate students.
Have you received a ‘Notice of Unsatisfactory Academic Progress (NoUAP)’ or 'Notice of Hearing' email? Continued enrolment in your course depends on passing enough subjects. At the end of each semester, the University examines the marks of students to see if you are passing enough subjects to eventually get your degree. This is called Academic Progress Review, and it is done by the Academic Progress Committee (APC) in each faculty. Depending on your situation, the following requirements may apply to you. Click on the ‘Make an Appointment’ button to book an appointment with an Advocate.
Why come to Student Advocacy and Support for help?
Student Advocacy and Support is run independently of the University by the Student Association. We assist Clayton or Parkville-enrolled undergraduate students. Our focus is the student, not the interests of the University. Student Advocacy and Support is available all year to help with student queries and issues, and staff are highly conversant with University policy and procedures. During the Academic Progress Review period we offer an extended service with Student Advocacy and Support Advisors who are well trained and experienced in all exclusion-related matters.
The criteria to receive a NoUAP are:
- failure of 50% or more of your subjects for 2 semesters; and/or
- failure of a subject you have failed before; and/or
- failure to meet a compulsory course requirement (varies per course/faculty) eg professional placement /literacy & numeracy test; and/or
- have not met the enrolment conditions set in the previous review period; and/or
- failure to successfully complete at least half, 2/3 or ¾ of the credit points required for the course within the same fraction of the maximum course duration.

*** Consequences for failing to respond to a NoUAP Risk Level 3 ***
If you do not respond to the Notice asking you to fill out and submit My Academic Progress Response, you may receive a notice of exclusion with no automatic right of appeal. The only recourse available is to write to the Dean of the Faculty and request that they exercise their discretion to refer the matter back to the APC. The letter will need to set out the exceptional circumstances that led to you not responding to the NoUAP Risk Level 3
